What is Wisma Bahasa ? |
|
A
|
Wisma
Bahasa - Yogyakarta Indonesian
Language Centre (YILC) was established in 1982
by Mr. Daniel Pearlmen who was a Peace Corps volunteer
from State University of California at Berkeley,
USA. At the present time Wisma Bahasa
is owned by Suara Bhakti Foundation. We have been
dealing with our clients for 25 years. A relaxed
atmosphere is deliberately created to eliminate
the concept of "teacher-student relationships".
We foster the "relationship of friends"
concept within our school's environment.

Where is the position of Indonesia
? |
|
A
|
Indonesia,
the largest archipelago, is located in the southernmost
part of South-East Asia. Indonesia has a total
of 17,508 islands of which about 6,000 are inhabited.
The five main islands are Sumatera, Jawa, Kalimantan,
Sulawesi, and Irian Jaya. Java is the smallest
but the most populated island. Dividing the
Pacific and Indian Oceans at the Equator, Indonesia
archipelago stretches 5,150 km between the Australian
and Asian continental mainlands. Because it
is surpassed by the equator, Indonesia is called
"Jamrud Khatulistiwa".
Indonesia has 300 to 400 ethnic groups
and languages. Though there are 300 languages
spoken throughout the country, Bahasa Indonesia
becomes the national language. Therefore, the
role of Bahasa Indonesia is very important. |

3. |
What are the differences between
Jakarta and Yogyakarta ? |
|
A
|
Both
of them use the word "Jakarta", but
actually there is a big difference between the
cities. Jakarta is the capital city of Indonesia,
whereas Yogyakarta is the capital city of the
Special Territory of Yogyakarta (Daerah
Istimewa Yogyakarta). They are located
in Java island.
The city of Yogyakarta has been considered as
an emotional and cultural centre, which becomes
the capital of Javanese kingdoms. Yogyakarta
remains one of Indonesia's most touristically
important places and for foreigners because
it offers excellent value. Yogyakarta is rich
both in history and culture. Although the capital
city of Central Java is Semarang, most of Central
Java's main attractions are in, or close to,
the city of Yogyakarta including the magnificent
Borobudur and Prambanan temples. Yogyakarta
is also well-known as the city of students.
In addition, there is Adisucipto airport situated
some 4 kilometers east of Yogyakarta.
The population of the city of Yogyakarta itself
is about 2.000.000 people - the second most
populated city after the capital city of Jakarta.
There are more than 50 universities and a lot
of academies in Yogyakarta. Gadjah Mada University
and Islamic University of Indonesia are well-known
universities in Yogyakarta. A lot of alumni
of those universities hold important position
in companies, organizations in Indonesia, and
other development sectors of the country. |
