One of Indonesian cultural heritage is Batik, a form of fabric that is full of meaning. In fact, the Indonesian government has set October 2 is the National Batik Day! Have you ever seen batik fabric in Indonesia? Check out the overview of Batik painting below!

Materials and tools for batik are mori/cotton fabric, 2B/7B pencil, batik pattern, canting (a pen-like tool used to apply liquid hot wax), wax (Javanese: malam), natural dyes, lime, and vinegar.

First, the nyorek process is the process of drawing a pattern with a 2B pencil on a white mori/cotton fabric. Second, the nyanting process uses a canting filled with liquid wax to cover the pattern on the white mori/cotton fabric. Third, the fabric that has been dyed is soaked in water for 5 minutes and dried in the sun. Fourth, after the fabric is dry, the first colouring process is carried out with natural dyes for 5 minutes and then dried until half dry. Fifth, the second colouring process is repeated to get the colours desired. Sixth, the colour locking process is carried out with lime or vinegar for 30 minutes. Then, the last process is called the nglorot process, which is to release the wax or malam by boiling the fabric for 5 minutes and then leaving it in the sun to dry.
