GET TO KNOW BOUND MORPHEME IN INDONESIAN LANGUAGE

In Indonesian, there is a linguistic phenomenon called bentuk terikat (bound morpheme). Bentuk terikat (bound morpheme) can have meaning if they are attached to preexisting words. The bound morpheme we’re going to discuss in this article is -kah.

-kah as bound morpheme has two functions, check it out down below.

  1. -kah serves to confirm or strengthen the question.

For example,    “Tahukah Anda tentang berita itu?” (Did you know about the news?)

“Sudah selesai atau belumkah pekerjaanmu itu?” (Are you done with your work or not yet?)

  1. -kah serves to refine the question and is commonly used as an additional question word.

For example,   “Apakah dia suka makanan pedas?” (Does he like spicy food?)

Di manakah saya bisa membeli antinyamuk?” (Where can I buy mosquito repellent?)

For the record, the word apakah is often used as a question word for a yes or no answer. Do you know any other bound morpheme in Indonesian language?
