International cooperation during Covid-19 pandemic; Bandung, Indonesia – Fort Worth, US Sister City

COVID-19 pandemic has not hindered Sister City Bandung, Indonesia and Fort Worth, Texas, United States cooperation. The Indonesian Consulate General in Houston, initiated an online meeting for the representatives of Bandung and Fort Worth to discuss increasing Sister Cities cooperation between the two cities, last September.

According to the Consulate General of the Republic Indonesia in Houston, Nana Yuliana, the cooperation between the two cities needs some improvements. COVID-19 pandemic, which has hit almost everywhere in the world, should not be a barrier to advancements for cooperation between the two cities. The partnership between the two cities is mainly in the education field. In the future, the Consulate General of the Republic Indonesia hopes that cooperation can expand to more fields such as tourism and trade.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Mayor of Bandung expects the collaboration of Sister City between Bandung and Fort Worth to help restore the post-pandemic economic situation, in order to provide tangible benefits to the residents in both cities.

The CEO of Sister City International Fort Worth, Mae Ferguson, said that this pandemic has affected international relations and information exchange greatly. However, Mae is confident that the relationship between the two cities will further develop not only in the education field, but also in the economic field.

Students and alumni of SMAN 5 Bandung who participated in the Sister City program at the International Leadership Academy (ILA) Fort Worth attended the meeting, as well as High School students from Fort Worth who had visited Bandung. Tingkatkan Kerja Sama di Tengah Pandemi, Bandung Jalin Hubungan Sister City dengan Fort Worth

Pandemi COVID-19 tidak menghalangi kerja sama Sister City Bandung, Indonesia dan Fort Worth, Texas, Amerika Serikat. Diprakarsai oleh KJRI Houston, Perwakilan Kota Bandung dan Fort Worth mengadakan pertemuan secara daring untuk membahas peningkatan kerja sama Sister City kedua kota, pada bulan September lalu.

Menurut Konjen RI Houston, Nana Yuliana, kerja sama kedua kota perlu ditingkatkan. Pandemi COVID-19 yang melanda hampir semua tempat di dunia, tidak menjadi penghalang untuk membuat langkah kerja sama kedua kota. Hubungan kerja sama kedua kota selama ini lebih didominasi oleh bidang pendidikan. Di masa depan, Konjen RI mengharapkan kerja sama dapat diperluas lagi pada bidang pariwisata dan perdagangan.
Sementara itu, Wakil Walikota Bandung mengharapkan, kerja sama Sister City antara Bandung dengan Fort Worth dapat membantu pemulihan kondisi ekonomi pascapandemi, agar memberikan manfaat yang nyata bagi penduduk kedua kota.

CEO Sister City International Forth Worth, Mae Ferguson menyampaikan bahwa pandemi ini sangat memengaruhi hubungan internasional dan pertukaran informasi. Namun demikian, Mae sangat optimis bahwa hubungan kedua kota ini akan semakin berkembang tidak hanya di bidang pendidikan, tapi juga di bidang ekonomi.

Pertemuan tersebut turut dihadiri oleh para siswa dan alumni SMAN 5 Bandung yang mengikuti program Sister City pada International Leadership Academy (ILA) Fort Worth, serta siswa High School dari Fort Worth yang pernah berkunjung ke Bandung.
